On January 6, 2021, the Chief Justice of South Carolina issued an Order concerning in-person proceedings. Due to an increase in Covid-19 cases, all in-person proceedings, with limited exceptions, were suspended beginning January 11, 2021. Since this includes foreclosure sales, all monthly foreclosure sales are suspended in Aiken County until further Order of the Chief Justice of South Carolina.
There will NOT be a June foreclosure sale.
The judicial sale scheduled for May 12, 2020 has been cancelled.
The Wagener Landfill will remain open until Saturday, April 18th, to accommodate for the extra debris caused by the recent storms. It will be open for normal business hours to accept storm debris only.
The Wagener Landfill will be open Wednesday, April 15th, to accommodate for the extra debris caused by the recent storms.
Aiken County Offices will remain closed to the public in accordance with guidance from the South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control and the Governor’s Office. Employees will still be available to assist citizens with online, email and phone transactions. Additionally, all County parks, programs and facilities remain closed to the public as well. This closure extension runs through and includes Friday, May 1, 2020.
Aiken County is also seeing a tremendous increase in the volume of yard debris and waste coming to the residential drop off centers as well as the Barden landfill on Connector Road. In some cases, increases in traffic are upwards of 50% from normal. This increased volume has begun to overwhelm the County’s capacity to manage the waste stream and remove the waste from the collection centers in a timely fashion. To address this, the residential drop off centers will now only accept yard trimmings, clippings and small debris that will fit inside a pick-up truck, SUV or other non-commercial vehicle used to deliver the waste to the drop off center. The centers will no longer accept debris brought in by trailer. All trailer loads should be taken directly to the Barden Landfill and will be directed to do so if presented at a residential drop off center. This change in policy is for residential yard debris only. Regular household waste will still be accepted at all residential drop off centers in the County.
“We understand this change in policy may be a bit of an inconvenience for our customers, but our residential collection centers just simply cannot handle the amount of yard debris we are receiving” said County Administrator Clay Killian. “We appreciate our citizens’ cooperation and patience and request their assistance in helping us manage this problem.”
Citizens should continue to follow the recommendations and directives from the Centers for Disease Control and healthcare providers on how to stay safe and avoid contracting this, or any other, virus.

The Wagener Landfill is closed until further notice.
As the COVID-19 virus continues to spread throughout the state, Aiken County will extend the closure of all public facilities closed to the public through April 17, 2020. This also includes all County parks and recreation facilities. This is being done in accordance with Governor Henry McMaster’s latest executive order that extends dine-in restaurant restrictions and also continues restrictions on public gatherings of large groups.
Citizens are urged to continue conducting business with the County by phone, email, U.S. Mail and online as much as possible. County employees are still at work assisting folks with their needs, but will not be doing so on an in-person basis. Citizens should contact the office they need assistance from to find out what they need in order to complete their business.
Please refer to the Aiken County Government website at www.aikencountysc.gov for specific departmental information. Citizens may also call 803-642-1500 for specific information regarding any business they need to conduct with the County.
These measures are necessary for the protection of everyone and to minimize the spread of the COVID-19 virus. Aiken County appreciates the cooperation and assistance from our citizens as we work through these difficult and trying times. Should conditions improve and warrant an earlier opening of the facilities, the building access ban will be lifted.
