The City of North Augusta, the City of Aiken and Aiken County have worked in cooperation in the aftermath of Hurricane Helene to provide for the removal and disposal of storm-related debris.
In an effort to plan for the final steps of this enormous project, a deadline has been established for those that have not gotten their storm-related debris placed on road right of way.
If you have not yet moved your debris to the road right of way, we are asking that this be completed no later than Sunday, January 5, 2025.
While our collection efforts will certainly continue after January 5 for perhaps a month or more, a deadline will greatly aid in the efficiency of this project.
Please note that this schedule is dependent on several factors, including weather conditions and the availability of subcontractors to do the collection. Also note that roads owned by the State of South Carolina have their own deadline and their debris collection is operated independently from the local government efforts.
There are three (3) permitted debris sites for Aiken County's contractor (SDR) - 2121 Columbia Hwy North, 146 Anderson Pond Rd, and 170 Pine Log Rd.
The contractor is currently working in the Graniteville area and hauling to the Columbia Hwy site. The Anderson Pond site is expected to be ready to receive material by late tomorrow (Tuesday)
with pickup to begin in that general vicinity. Additional sites are being evaluated in the City of North Augusta, as well as a few other locations in the county.
Work Hours: The contractor is working 7 days a week from dawn (7:30 am) to dusk (6:30 pm).
Crews: There are currently 5 units and 3 crews mobilized. Four (4) more haul crews will be mobilized by the end of the week.
Collected Friday thru Sunday = Just under 3000 cubic yards.
Private Contractors: Private/commercial contractors cutting and collecting debris from property owners need to follow the typical policy for commercial hauls and use the landfill.
All Residential Convenience Centers are back to full operation on their normal schedules.
The DMV and DNR are waiving late fees due to Hurricane Helene. Making payments online at https://www.aikencountysc.gov/Tegov2a is currently the best payment method.
Aiken County Government Center at 1930 University Parkway will be OPEN to the public on regular schedule beginning Wednesday, October 2, 2024. The Magistrate Offices will also be open tomorrow for regular hours with the exception of Midland Valley Magistrate and North Augusta Magistrate. As those offices and other public buildings have power restored they will open as well.
