Aiken County Website Receives Sunny Award
April 26, 2010

The Aiken County Government website has won a 2010 "Sunny Award" from the non-profit Sunshine Review organization. The Sunny Award is presented by the Editors of Sunshine Review to honor the most transparent government websites in America. These websites have scored an “A” transparency grade on Sunshine Review’s Transparency Checklist. This year, only one percent of the 5,000 government websites ranked by Sunshine Review earned a Sunny Award.

The County received an "A+" grade for its transparency with public information. Additionally, Aiken County is one of only two Counties in South Carolina with a perfect score from Sunshine Review. Sunshine Review uses a 10-point "transparency checklist" to measure government web sites on what they provide against what should be provided - specifically, information about budgets, public meetings, elected and administrative officials, permits and zoning, audits, contracts, lobbying, public records and taxes. Since its inception in 2008, Sunshine Review has analyzed the Web sites of all 50 states, more than 3,140 counties, 805 cities and 1,560 school districts.
