Aiken County Government

provides many essential and beneficial services to its citizens. The County is governed by the County Council, comprised of an elected-at-large Council Chairman and 8 members elected from single-member districts. Find out who your Aiken County Council member is, and how to contact that person. Aiken County's Code of Laws is accessible online here. Also available are the Code of Laws for the City of Aiken and the City of North Augusta. The South Carolina Code of Laws and other references are also available online. Aiken County Government's services are provided by different departments in many locations around this large County. You can contact the County staff by phone, email, or in person. Generally, County offices are open between 8:30 AM and 5:00 PM Monday through Friday, excluding holidays.

The County normally has several job openings available to qualified applicants, as do the City of Aiken and the City of North Augusta. The South Carolina OneStop Job Center offers many great resources to assist you in your search for new and better employment.

State government provides helpful information to new and existing businesses at their Business One-Stop website, their Business site at SCBOS.SC.GOV, and at the SC Department of Commerce website. Business licenses are required in some of the incorporated areas of the County, but are not required in the unincorporated areas.

Provides leadership of assigned crew members. Performs related work as required. Reports to the assigned Foreman.     Job Description:  Under occasional supervision, responds to fire alarms and other emergency calls as required, and performs the necessary functions and operations to efficiently and effectively protect the lives and property of those in need of assistance. Drives fire apparatus to the scene of emergencies. Performs related work as required. Reports to the Senior Firefighter. EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: Requires a technical college diploma supplemented by two to three years of experience in fire suppression and/or emergency response operations. Must complete required coursework and maintain certifications as issued by the S.C. Fire Academy, including basic firefighting, interior structural firefighting, hazardous materials technician, and any other certifications deemed necessary by department head. Must possess a valid state driver’s license.

    Department: Animal Shelter

    Job Description:  This position maintains a safe and sanitary facility for all shelter animals, and provides humane handling and care by assuring animals’ nutrition, housing and basic medical needs are met on a daily basis. It also assists the public when admitting, redeeming, and adopting animals to promote responsible pet ownership. REQUIRED EDUCATIONAL BACKGROUND AND JOB RELATED EXPERIENCE: Must have High School education and a minimum of 1 year experience. Minimum level of qualifications, licenses, certificates, registrations, or any relevant knowledge, job skills or equivalent experience. Must have SC driver’s license, good judgment, ability to identify animal gender, description and breed. Must have the ability to perform humane euthanasia.

    Job Description:  Under limited supervision, ensures the safe, reliable and efficient use of County vehicles and equipment by providing quality, cost-effective maintenance and repair services. Performs related administrative, supervisory and technical work as required. Reports to the Public Works Director. EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: Requires a vocational/technical diploma in automotive maintenance and repair, supplemented by six to nine years of experience in fleet management, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities. Must possess a valid state driver’s license.



    Position: Dispatcher II
    Department: Aiken County Sheriff's Office
    Closing Date: Continuous
    Job Description:  Under occasional supervision, receives in-coming emergency and non-emergency calls, and dispatches calls for law enforcement to appropriate personnel in an accurate, timely and professional manner. Works under stressful conditions. Performs related tasks as required. Reports to the Shift Supervisor – Communications Center Supervisor. Requires a high school diploma or GED equivalent supplemented by nine to twelve months of experience in emergency dispatch operations, or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
