Aiken County Government

provides many essential and beneficial services to its citizens. The County is governed by the County Council, comprised of an elected-at-large Council Chairman and 8 members elected from single-member districts. Find out who your Aiken County Council member is, and how to contact that person. Aiken County's Code of Laws is accessible online here. Also available are the Code of Laws for the City of Aiken and the City of North Augusta. The South Carolina Code of Laws and other references are also available online. Aiken County Government's services are provided by different departments in many locations around this large County. You can contact the County staff by phone, email, or in person. Generally, County offices are open between 8:30 AM and 5:00 PM Monday through Friday, excluding holidays.



The County normally has several job openings available to qualified applicants, as do the City of Aiken and the City of North Augusta. The South Carolina OneStop Job Center offers many great resources to assist you in your search for new and better employment.

State government provides helpful information to new and existing businesses at their Business One-Stop website, their Business site at SCBOS.SC.GOV, and at the SC Department of Commerce website. Business licenses are required in some of the incorporated areas of the County, but are not required in the unincorporated areas.

  • Position: Site Attendant (part time/24 hours)

    Job Description:  Under regular supervision, monitors and screens all waste and recyclable materials delivered by residents to County drop-off sites; insures the public places materials in the proper container. Monitors container volume; maintains site appearance and safety. Performs related work as required. Reports to the Foreman.



    Position: Museum Assistant II

    Job Description:  Under general supervision, interacts with the volunteers and the public, and is available, with prior notice, to represent the museum during special events occurring after normal operating hours. REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE,TRAINING & EXPERIENCE: Must be able to meet and greet visitors to the museum and to supervise visitors conduct with regard to stated rules of operation. Minimum of two years of college or similar experience in the work place.

    Job Description:  Under regular supervision, operates light construction equipment in the maintenance and construction of County roads, drainage systems and rights-of-way. Performs related work as required. Reports to the assigned Foreman. EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: Requires a high school diploma or GED equivalent, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities. Must possess a valid state CDL driver’s license.



    Position: Dispatcher II
    Department: Aiken County Sheriff's Office

    Job Description:  Under occasional supervision, receives in-coming emergency and non-emergency calls, and dispatches calls for law enforcement to appropriate personnel in an accurate, timely and professional manner. Works under stressful conditions. Performs related tasks as required. Reports to the Shift Supervisor – Communications Center Supervisor. Requires a high school diploma or GED equivalent supplemented by nine to twelve months of experience in emergency dispatch operations, or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities. Must be able to successfully complete required training in order to obtain E-911 and NCIC certifications. Must possess a valid S.C. driver's license.



    Position: Deputy Sheriff I
    Department: Aiken County Sheriff's Office

    Job Description:  Under regular supervision, patrols assigned areas of the County and responds to calls for service; enforces all local, federal and state laws relating to public safety and welfare. Works under stressful, high-risk conditions. Reports to the Corporal and/or Sergeant – Uniform Patrol. Requires a high school diploma or GED equivalent supplemented by coursework in criminal justice / police science, or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities. Must possess a valid S.C. driver's license.



    Position: Detention Officer

Performs related technical work as required. Reports to the Crew Chief. EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: Requires a high school diploma or GED equivalent supplemented by one to two years of experience and/or training in emergency medical service programs. Must complete required coursework and maintain EMT – Basic, Basic Cardiac Life Support, CPA certifications and any other certifications deemed necessary by department head. Must possess a valid state driver’s license.



    Position: EMT – Advanced
    Department: Emergency Services

    Job Description:  Under occasional supervision, responds to emergency calls and provides medical assistance to the sick and injured at the EMT – Advanced level. Performs related technical work as required. Reports to the Crew Chief. EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: Requires a high school diploma or GED equivalent supplemented by two to three years of progressive experience in emergency medical service programs. Must complete required coursework and maintain EMT- Advanced, Basic Cardiac Life Support, Pre-hospital life support, CPR certifications and any other certifications deemed necessary by department head. Must possess a valid state driver’s license.



    Position: EMT – Paramedic
    Department: Emergency Services
    Closing Date: Continuous
    Job Description:  Under occasional supervision, responds to emergency calls and provides medical assistance to the sick and injured at the Paramedic level. Performs related technical work as required. Reports to the Crew Chief. EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: Requires a high school diploma or GED equivalent supplemented by three to four years of progressive experience in emergency medical service programs. Must complete required coursework and maintain EMT, Paramedic, Basic Cardiac Life Support, Advanced Cardiac Life Support, CPR certifications and any other certifications deemed necessary by department head. Must possess a valid state driver’s license.



    Position: Operator Foreman
    Department: Public Works

    Job Description:  Under occasional supervision, coordinates waste disposal activities and operates heavy equipment in the maintenance and operation of County landfills. Provides leadership of assigned crew members. Performs related work as required. Reports to the assigned Foreman. EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: Requires a high school diploma or GED equivalent supplemented by three to four years of experience in public works or landfill maintenance operations and/or heavy equipment operation, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities. Must possess a valid state CDL driver’s license.
